I think you've just got to wait to see if either or both of you is positive for type 2. He doesn't have a very good reason to lie since your relationship is open. When I got my culture test (not back yet) the doc was of the opinion that my sore looked more like type 1 than 2. I suppose if his doc gave him any opinion on that he'd have mentioned it to you though.
