Is there such a thing as your uterus not being able to carry a child?

My aunt and uncle can't have kids, they've tried IVF too but nothing. I tried asking my mom why she can't have kids and she said something about the doctor told her that her uterus "can't carry" or is not suitable to carry for a child. I don't get it. How could it not be?
