Does having cold sores put you at higher risk for hiv?

Okay, so I got a red sore on my lips about a month or so ago. At the time I just assumed it was an allergic reaction or something because I have only made out with 3 people since childhood. (Yes, I used to french kiss girls when i was a child it was kiddle love). Well, it didn't go away for like a week. It wasn't THAT painful but I could obviously tell it wasn't normal. Well about 2 weeks later I went in and had a full panel std test and I was shocked to find out it came back positive for HSV-1! I'm assuming that the sore I had was a cold sore since it didn't go away for a whole week, altough it wasn't really that severe. My question is, can simply having hsv-1/cold sores put you at higher risk for hiv or do you have to be having an outbreak to be at higher risk?
